L’expression monter sur le banc, employée pour traduire to be named to the bench, est fautive. Il s’agit d’un anglicisme.

Selon le contexte, on emploie plutôt :

  • entrer dans la magistrature
  • accéder à la magistrature
  • être nommé juge

Exemples

  • On estime qu’une quarantaine d’avocats ont été nommés juges depuis quelques années.
  • Le gouvernement a nommé à la magistrature des personnes très qualifiées.
