The noun sceptic refers to someone who doubts.

  • Ivan is a sceptic; he doesn’t believe this change is for the better.

The adjective septic describes something that is festering or putrefying.

  • The soldier’s untreated wound became septic.
  • Pharmaceuticals get into sewage and septic systems.
