raise, rise

As a verb, raise takes an object, whereas rise does not.

  • They raise cattle for a living.
  • It is expected that the temperature will rise to 33 °C.

Note the principal parts of these verbs:

  • raise, raised, has raised
  • rise, rose, has risen
