The prefix pro- has various meanings.

Meaning 1: promoting, supporting

  • Pro-government supporters gathered in the square.

Meaning 2: acting for

  • A pronoun stands in for a noun and can do all the things a noun can do.

Meaning 3: before

  • In Romeo and Juliet, the prologue at the beginning of Act I introduces the themes of the play.
