Use numerals for numbers treated as nouns in mathematical usage:
- multiply by 3
- a factor of 2
- 14 plus 6
Algebraic expressions used with units of measurement should be distinguished from the units by means of italics, unless the units are written in full:
- 3ab m or 3ab metres
