The combining form inter- has two meanings.

Meaning 1: between, among

  • The airport has increased the number of intercontinental flights.
  • John served as an intermediary between the groups in conflict.

Meaning 2: mutual, reciprocal

  • These two medications interact with one another.
  • The roads intersect about two kilometres from the coast.
