Incapable, when used on its own, means that one is generally incompetent.

Incapable of emphasizes that one is unable physically, morally or emotionally to do something specific. The phrase incapable of introduces a noun or gerund.

  • Sue is temporarily incapable of dealing with the pressures of her hectic life.
