Quand une somme est écrite entièrement ou partiellement en lettres, on doit écrire les unités au long, et non employer un symbole :
- 100 millions de mètres cubes (et non : 100 millions de m3)
- cent millions de mètres cubes (et non : cent millions de m3)
Par contre, on emploie le symbole lorsque la somme est écrite en chiffres :
- 100 000 000 m3
