Le mot roue est souvent employé au Canada pour désigner le dispositif en forme de roue servant au conducteur à orienter une automobile, mais il s’agit d’un calque de l’anglais wheel.
On emploie le mot volant en français :
- Il a donné un brusque coup de volant. (et non : un brusque coup de roue)
- Veux-tu prendre le volant à ma place? (et non : prendre la roue à ma place)
L’expression volant de direction est un canadianisme familier.
