Emporter
On emporte une chose ou une personne non valide, un être inerte assimilé à une chose :
- J’emporte deux valises.
- C’est un plat à emporter.
- On emporta le blessé dans l’ambulance.
Avec un sujet de chose, le verbe emporter, qui admet dans ce cas un complément de personne, veut dire « entraîner avec force, rapidité » :
- Le courant a emporté le petit garçon.
- La tornade a emporté des voitures stationnées.
Emmener
On emmène une personne ou un animal :
- J’emmène mon chien chez le voisin.
- C’était la première fois que sa mère l’emmenait en voyage.
Avec un sujet de chose, le verbe emmener évoque l’idée de « conduire, transporter au loin » :
- Le bateau emmène des voyageurs.
