vocal, vociferous, voluble

Vocal refers to the voice, the making of sounds, or to people who express themselves candidly.

  • Brad’s cat gets vocal when she wants to be let out.
  • Cécile was a vocal critic of her boss’s leadership style.

Vociferous describes forceful and noisy communication.

  • The speaker could not be heard above the vociferous heckling.

Voluble people are talkative, speaking rapidly and for long periods.

  • Philip likes the sound of his own voice; he is always so voluble.
