verse, stanza

Technically, a verse is one line of poetry or music, and a stanza is a group of such lines. But generally verse and stanza are used interchangeably to mean the sections of a poem or song.

  • The audience sang the first stanza (or verse) of “O Canada” in English, and the second in French.
