Redundancies are words that unnecessarily repeat information. Because tumble means “to fall down,” the modifier downward in the phrase downward tumble is redundant.

  • The dotcom stocks took a tumble (not downward tumble) on the Toronto Stock Exchange after rumours of insider trading.
