To write clearly and concisely, use the conjunction because instead of as a result of the fact that. Other possibilities include since, considering that or given that.
- Wordy: As a result of the fact that a storm was brewing, we set off for home.
- Concise: Because (or Since) a storm was brewing, we set off for home.
- Wordy: As a result of the fact that real estate prices had dropped, homeowners were reluctant to put their houses up for sale.
- Concise: Considering (or Given) that real estate prices had dropped, homeowners were reluctant to put their houses up for sale.
