Dans la langue juridique, le nom libelle est un anglicisme à remplacer par :
- diffamation
- écrit diffamatoire
- diffamation écrite
On dit :
- intenter un procès en diffamation
et non :
- intenter un procès en libelle
- intenter un procès pour libelle diffamatoire
Le libelle est un court écrit de caractère satirique, parfois diffamatoire, en général dirigé contre un particulier. Le mot est plus ou moins synonyme de pamphlet et de satire.
