Sympathy with indicates being in favour of something, or supporting a cause, a proposal, etc.

  • As dog owners, the Hendersons were in sympathy with the aims of the Humane Society.

Sympathy for suggests feeling sorry for someone.

  • Kerry felt great sympathy for her brother who had lost the 400-metre race by one tenth of a second.

Sympathy between refers to an agreement in feeling.

  • There exists a strong sympathy between people who have experienced similar hardships.
