The prefix sym- or syn- has two meanings.

Meaning 1: alike

  • The human body is not perfectly symmetrical.
  • synonymfor the word “beautiful” is “attractive.”

Meaning 2: along with, together

  • In a symbiotic relationship, two organisms of different species live together.
  • The action of the B vitamins is synergistic, so they should be taken together.
