psycho-

The combining form psycho- has two meanings:

Meaning 1: mind

  • A psychosomatic illness has a mental rather than a physical cause.
  • Carl Jung was an important pioneer in psychoanalysis.

Meaning 2: psychology

  • Psychotherapy uses psychological methods to treat mental illness.
  • Andrea’s presentation was full of psychobabble, but I don’t think she really understands the meaning of most of those terms.
