One presents an item to a person.

  • The gold medal for the women’s 500-metre speed skating event was presented to Catriona Le May Doan.

One presents a person with something.

  • Catriona Le May Doan was presented with the gold medal for winning the 500-metre race.

Present to also means to introduce one person to another, usually of a higher rank.

  • After being presented to an ambassador, address him or her as “Sir” or “Madam.”
