When referring to such organizations as the Royal Canadian Legion, Royal British Legion or American Legion, use an upper case “L” in “legion.”

  • Henri was a proud Legion member who sold poppies each November.

Otherwise, use a lower case “l.”

  • Every summer, legions (hordes) of tourists visit Niagara Falls.
