jack, plug

The noun jack refers to the socket or “female” part of plug and socket systems for connecting telephones, computers, audio-visual equipment, etc. The “male” part is properly called the plug.

  • Insert the plug from the left speaker into the jack on the console.
  • The telephone company no longer installs multiple phone jacks inside your home, but you may do so yourself.
