indexes: combined entries

In order to keep your index as short as possible, combine entries for closely related concepts. For example,

  • Financial management, 35, 45
  • Financial systems, 56, 67

can be amalgamated to form one entry:

  • Financial management and systems, 35, 45, 56, 67

If the number of subentries is particularly long, the index may be too detailed, as in the following example:

  • Engineering courses
    • chemical, 46
    • civil, 47
    • electrical, 48
    • marine, 49

A combined entry suffices:

  • Engineering courses, 46–49
