Economic relates to the economy:

  • The government’s economic plan emphasized job creation.

In contrast, economical refers to a person who is thrifty or to a machine or process which is efficient, avoids waste, etc.

  • Lou is very economical; he finds many ways to save.
  • Maya’s movements are economical of time and energy.
  • Small cars are economical to run, considering the cost of fuel and insurance.
