The Language Portal’s new navigation menu

Good news: the Language Portal of Canada has a new menu that will help you to easily navigate between our language resources and quickly find answers to your language-related questions!

Braces are used to link two or more lines of writing:

This image illustrates the use of braces to show the divisions and subdivisions within the Celtic family of languages.

They are also used to group items in formulas and equations. In mathematical usage, the preferred order for multiple brackets is as follows:

  • {[( {[( )]} )]}

Note that square brackets enclose round brackets, in contrast to the practice in non-mathematical usage.
