Similes begin with the conjunction as or the preposition like. The sentences below contain commonly used similes. See if you can find the right word to complete each one.

(Note: Many similes are clichés—phrases so common that they lose their effect in a written text. Although you should avoid clichés in your writing, they can be very useful in conversation.)
