Fun with Clauses 2

In the following questions, the word groups all contain a subject and a verb and are therefore clauses. But clauses are not all alike! Some are independent—they can stand alone as a complete sentence. And some are dependent—they can’t stand alone; they need an independent clause to support them. See if you can identify what kind of clause each word group is.

2. please pick up your toys
3. Carlo has been playing the guitar
4. since he woke up this morning
5. the hostess thanked her guests for their beautiful gifts
6. although it was not necessary
7. if the weather was freezing
