L’absous ou l’absoute est la personne qui bénéficie d’une absolution. Comme le participe passé du verbe absoudre, la forme substantive ou adjective au masculin singulier est absous et, au féminin singulier, absoute. « L’accusé absous est réputé ne pas avoir été déclaré coupable de l’infraction. »
Toutefois, il y a lieu de noter la rareté de l’emploi de la forme substantive, surtout au féminin.
