Thank you so much for this!!! It's wild how many search results I had to wade through before finding this actually helpful explainer. All anyone else wants to do is to explain what conjunctions and clauses are (and how "that" is one), but no one wants to get into the why and when to use it! I'm working on my first piece of long-form fiction, and was finding myself to prefer the inclusion of "that," as a general principle. Language is so weird!! : )
