Well before the Canadian Oxford Dictionary, there was the Canadian Gage Dictionary, which was the first reference when searching for a definition at the University of Ottawa. Wikipedia provides a short history at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gage_Canadian_Dictionary :
