Dans la langue moderne, le mot chance a pris un sens positif. Il signifie « bonne fortune, succès, bonheur, occasion favorable » :
- La chance tourne en sa faveur.
Le mot chance est considéré comme un faux ami lorsqu’il est utilisé dans le sens de « risque ». Ainsi, prendre une chance et prendre des chances sont des calques de l’anglais to take a chance/to take chances.
On dit plutôt prendre un risque, prendre des risques.
