Il faut réserver l’emploi du verbe œuvrer au travail non rémunéré, à une œuvre importante ayant des bénéfices pour la société :
- œuvrer pour le bien de la communauté
- œuvrer pour la préservation des espèces menacées
- œuvrer pour la promotion de la recherche sur le sida
Le verbe œuvrer se construit parfois avec la préposition à, le plus souvent avec pour.
