On emploie la graphie malvoyant. La graphie avec trait d’union mal-voyant est désuète.
Le nom malvoyant désigne une personne dont le sens de la vue est légèrement ou moyennement diminué. On dit aussi :
- personne ayant une déficience visuelle
- personne malvoyante
Il faut toutefois éviter l’expression personne ayant un handicap visuel.
Il ne faut pas confondre malvoyant avec personne aveugle. Une personne aveugle a un sens de la vue gravement affaibli ou en est privé complètement. Dans ce sens, on évite les mots aveugle ou non-voyant.
