La Banque du Canada a retenu la graphie huard pour désigner la pièce de un dollar :
- La valeur du huard est au beau fixe.
- Le huard a remplacé le dollar de papier en 1987.
Lorsqu’on parle de l’oiseau, les graphies huart et huard sont toutes deux acceptables.
Cependant, les ouvrages spécialisés semblent privilégier la graphie avec un d :
- Nous avons observé un huard et ses oisillons qui nageaient sur le lac.
- Elle imite parfaitement le cri du huard.
