On a parfois recours au conditionnel par prudence, en particulier lorsqu’il s’agit d’annoncer une nouvelle non encore confirmée :

  • Il y a eu un grand incendie hier à Montréal; le feu aurait été mis par des malfaiteurs.
  • La catastrophe aurait fait trente mille morts.
