Le nom breuvage est utilisé au Canada, sous l’influence de l’anglais beverage, dans le sens de « boisson non alcoolisée ». Il est considéré comme un canadianisme. Dans un français soutenu, il est préférable d’employer boisson non alcoolisée.

En français international, le nom breuvage désigne une boisson spéciale ayant des vertus particulières :

  • Le chaman leur donnait un breuvage qui les aidait à supporter le froid.
