Canada loses language rights pioneer

A chiropractor by training, former senator Jean-Robert Gauthier fought for French speakers in his home province of Ontario and was a staunch defender of bilingualism. In 2007, he was honoured for his efforts and joined the ranks of other great Canadians as a Member of the Order of Canada. During his 32 years in Parliament, Jean-Robert Gauthier also earned a reputation as an activist who marched to the beat of his own drum.
