$1 million gift for journalism

$1 million gift for journalism

Sending a journalist on an international assignment is costly. Like most businesses, in times of financial restraint, the media is concerned with cutting costs, yet the need for in-depth journalism remains. With this in mind, philanthropist Alison Lawton donated $1 million to the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of British Columbia. Her gift launches Canada’s first international reporting course. Each year 10 students can now travel abroad and produce broadcast and online media coverage. Lawton says the course “will challenge students to…examine the definition of conscientious reporting.” Learn more at Entrepreneur’s gift creates Canada's first International Reporting course.
