Huron language lives again

Huron language lives again

The last time someone called the Huron language their mother tongue was at the turn of the 20th century. Now a federally funded initiative, the Yawenda Project, aims to revive Wendat, a version of Huron spoken by the Huron-Wendat near Québec. Since the beginning of March, every Monday for two hours, people aged 15 to 76 gather for Wendat classes where they can talk, listen and laugh. Organizer Linda Sioui says she always wondered why her people spoke French instead of their own language.
