Keep up the Gaelic!

Or, in Gaelic, Cumaibh suas a' Ghàidhlig!

Did you know that in the 1800s, the third most common language in Canada was Gaelic? In fact, Gaelic was the mother tongue of our first prime minister and most of the Fathers of Confederation! In the province of Alba Nuadh (Nova Scotia), May is Gaelic awareness month, and there is keen interest in keeping this rich heritage language alive. To contribute to this effort, Nova Scotia’s Office of Gaelic Affairs has established Bun is Bàrr (Root and Branch), a master-apprentice program that pairs Gaelic elders with Gaelic learners over a 12-month period.
