One language, many dialects

Delegates from the circumpolar world, from Alaska to Greenland, gathered in Iqaluit during Nunavut's Language Week recently. In an article for Northern News Services, guest columnist Edna Elias describes the many dialects of the Inuktitut language spoken by participants. She says that hearing the Greenlandic dialect "forced me to listen very carefully." The topics discussed included "standardization, terminology development, language instruction through all phases of life…."
