Kate and Anna McGarrigle emerged in the '60s and '70s as folksingers with a difference. They composed and sang in English and in French. Their music was embraced by both cultures in Canada at a time of social and cultural upheaval. Critically acclaimed worldwide, "The McGarrigle Sisters" have lost half their duo. Sadly, Kate passed away recently at her home in Montreal.
Made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1993, she last performed a few months ago with her children, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England. See Folk singer Kate McGarrigle (www) to learn more on this influential Canadian artist.
