More Aboriginals graduating

In Canada, many Aboriginal students are dropping out of high school. Statistics show that without a high school diploma, they are likely to become functionally illiterate. A recent article in New Brunswick’s Times & Transcript talks about a number of projects that are helping to lower the dropout rate. For example, in Truro, Nova Scotia, students of the Millbrook First Nation are overcoming learning and language challenges thanks to a program involving special education teachers. The teachers work with these students, who often have speech and language impairments, to help them acquire basic literacy skills.
