Post on or post to a Web site?

Question:

Is information posted on or to a Web site? Which preposition should I use?

Answer:

Use the preposition on. According to Wired Style: Principles of English Usage in the Digital Age (1999), information is posted on a Web site, not to a Web site. For example, this article is published, or posted, on the Language Portal of Canada site. But if you were posting a response as a reader of a Web site, then you would post your response to the Web site or in a chat room. Take a look at the examples below.

Remember that preposition use in English evolves. A look at examples on the Internet will confirm that usage for the verb post is still in flux, and often these prepositions are used interchangeably.
